Welcome back to work - hope you had a great summer vacation. Time to ignite the rockets again! Talking about rockets; some years ago, when NASA was asked what it would take to fly back to the moon, the answer came as a bit of a surprise - “We forgot how to do it, we’d have to start from scratch”.
In an era of cost-cutting, all the engineers who once worked on the Saturn 5 program had left NASA, taking with them the experience and knowledge required. Even the critical blueprints for the booster rockets were missing. Ouch. Could it be done again? Absolutely. Would it be expensive? Absofreakinlutely.
General Mills, one of the 10 largest packaged-food producers in the world, once estimated the cost of losing a marketing manager at “millions of dollars”. According to them, it takes between five to six years to get to the top of the game. Obtaining knowledge is a long and painstaking process, losing it can happen in an instant.
Value of sharing knowledge
So what does all of this have to do with QBank DAM? As a flexible and open-ended system QBank DAM can be used in a number of interesting ways that all have to do with preserving and sharing knowledge within an organisation.
Some ideas on what to share in your DAM:
Present best practice campaigns and marketing material - lead by example
Invite your different markets to share examples of successful local campaigns
Store creative briefs/agency de-briefs next to the produced material, they are too valuable to be filed in a binder, never to be seen again
Share pitch presentations between sales teams
Share videos and webcasts from trade shows, events, conferences
Allow employees to contribute their own company related photos (don’t forget to address the image rights)
Over time, as your DAM grows, so will the value of its content. Got a new hire? Put them in front of your DAM!
